Legendary songbird Whitney Houston appears at the 2011 Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons in Los Angeles, California on February 12, 2011.
UPDATE: Whitney Houston will not be joining The X Factor Season 2. Sadly, the legendary singer passed away unexpectedly at the age of 48 on February 11, 2012.
After Whitney Houston's last comeback underperformed commercially, the R&B legend might be planning another major venture to relaunch her career: A spot as a judge on The X Factor.
Since two places at the judges' table are now open with the recent departure of Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, rumors have been flying about who Simon Cowell will bring in to replace them — with names like Mariah Carey and Beyonce being bandied about. Now, another name has entered the fray, with The Hollywood Reporter saying that Whitney Houston has been tipped to appear on the show.
It would be a smart move for Simon, given that Whitney maintains A-list name recognition even though her reputation has been tarnished in recent years and her 2009 comeback failed to deliver on its initial promise; she's still regarded as one of the greatest vocal talents ever. Adding her to The X Factor could revitalize her flagging career, and The X Factor could use a high-profile star like Whitney in the mix.
Good luck, Whitney!
