American Idol 2014: Thursday Night Ratings Match All Time Low
Perhaps American Idol Thursday shows will fare better in ratings later this month when the results show cuts down to just 30 minutes, but for now, the new 9 p.m. time slot isn’t doing the already struggling series any favors. According to entertainment site Zap2it, Idol’s March 13 episode matched last week’s ratings low of a 2.2 in the adults ages 18 to 49 category. That’s a series low in back to back weeks for the show. Ouch.
This week Fox came in third during the 9 p.m. hour, losing out to both Two and a Half Men on CBS and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. It did, however, beat NBC’s Hollywood Game Night and CW’s Reign. Still, this season is certainly nowhere near the glory days of Idol, when it used to crush the competition to bits.
All that in mind, the continually falling ratings certainly make us scratch our heads as the show seems refreshed this year. Plus, those who skipped last night’s show missed out on Harry Connick, Jr.’s live performance, which was fantastic.
Perhaps the folks at Fox have even more magic up their sleeves since Idol is supposedly already slatted to come back next season, but in a much more subdued capacity.
