Girl group TLC has sung about love, sex, and heartbreak in its many varieties, but there’s little about the former trio that has prompted more speculation than the abrupt end of Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas’ relationship with Usher in 2003.
The former It couple broke up amid cheating rumors, fueled by his album, Confessions, on which many of the tracks seemed to hint that Usher had been carrying on an affair with another woman and may have even gotten her pregnant.
While the couple remained mum about the allegations at the time, Chilli now reveals to Us Weekly what really went down when the two decided to part ways.
"We were together when he recorded that album," she reveals. "All of those songs on Confessions, that was about Jermaine Dupri’s situation. Usher was just singing it. But people kind of bought into it, it was just the timing of our breakup when the album came out."
"So people assumed that album was about us, but it was not," she adds. “Usher and I weren't oil and water. We broke up because I guess it was that time or whatever.”
Despite the couple’s split, Chilli reveals, “I'll always love him, forever, because he was my first adult love, a real love…We're cool, we're really cool. There's no hard feelings, nothing like that. It's all good."
