Heroic Toddler Walks a Mile Seeking Help After Her Mother’s Murder

In an unthinkable story to come out of Moscotte, Florida, the Huffington Post reports that a 3-year-old girl walked alone for approximately a mile on a busy street from her own home to her grandmother’s house, because her mother, Kristi Lynne Delaney, had allegedly been murdered by her own father.

Authorities believe the girl found her way to her grandmother’s house because she had previously walked the route with her mother. According to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt Kristin Thompson, "She went down to her grandmother's and said she couldn't get her mom to wake up."

Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Delaney’s ex-husband, Johnny Lashawn Shipman. Court documents reveal that the mother had paternity and child support issues with the suspect. Delaney also has a police record including assault and battery, burglary, and drug charges.

Authorities are not revealing whether the toddler witnessed the murder or named Delaney as the suspect in the case. Sgt Thompson described the girl as “kind of heroic.” We can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been for a 3-year-old to see her mother murdered, but we’re happy that she’s now in safe hands. Our thoughts are with this family during this time.
