In the midst of his $50 million lawsuit, Tom Cruise is taking down Life & Style and In Touch, who both ran stories on how Tom abandoned his daughter Suri in the process of divorcing ex-wife Katie Holmes.
And according to People, in the latest edition of the legal saga, Tom’s detailing his extended separation from his daughter and the allegations that his divorce from Katie was in order to protect Suri from scientology.
Although Tom confirmed it’s true that he didn’t see Suri in between their Disney World vacation in August 2012 and Thanksgiving of the same year, thanks to being tied up in London filming All You Need is Kill, he insists Suri’s no worse for the wear.
“Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself,” Tom said, after explaining that during their separation they had almost daily phone calls.
And Tom’s excuse for turning Katie’s invitation to visit in October? More filming schedule issues, which Tom attributed to be a normal part of any divorce. “It’s just a different set of circumstances,” he said. “It certainly does not mean I’ve abandoned my daughter.”
And now for the big question: did scientology specifically play a role in their divorce?
“That was one of the assertions, yes,” Tom admitted. “There are many other aspects to the divorce.”
