Top 15 OMG Moments From The Vampire Diaries Season 3

Something might be wrong with us. After reviewing our fave OMG moments from Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries, we discovered that two things moved us most: Death and kisses. Seriously. There are five deaths and only two smooches in our most rewound scenes of this killer season. What about you? Which moments make your list?

15. Moment: The Original Family Reunion Part 1
Season 3, Episode 13: “Bringing Out the Dead”
Apparently Klaus (Joseph Morgan) met his match in his resurrected brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies). Unwilling to trust the man who stabbed him in the back, Elij undaggered his sleeping siblings to confront the O.V. Finn, stuck a knife through Klaus’s hand. Rebekah (Claire Holt) shoved another into his gut. Meanwhile Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), who’d been “asleep” for 900 years, gave him a look that could kill. It was the lethal nightcap to a gruesome dinner with the Salvatores.

14. Moment: Damon says, “I love you”
Season 3, Episode 14: “Dangerous Liaisons”
When Damon (Ian Somerhalder) confronted Elena (Nina Dobrev) because she colluded with Stefan (Paul Wesley) so she could meet with Esther (Alice Evans), he seemed to be upset over more than the fact that his little brother broke his neck. “Now you’re mad at me for including Stefan?” Elena asked. “No, I’m mad at you because I love you,” Damon replied. Yes, the sexiest Salvatore spoke the three words every girl would love to hear. Every girl except Elena. “Well, maybe that’s the problem,” she replied. Then there was the most awkward of pauses. Our hearts broke with Damon’s. “No, I got it, Elena. I care too much,” he said at last. “I’m a liability. How ironic is that?” Very.

13. Moment: Elena kills Alaric
Season 3, Episode 13: “Bringing Out the Dead
Could you kill your friend to save his life? Our girl did. When Elena, accompanied by Matt (Zach Roerig), returned home after Caroline’s (Candice Accola) father died, she found a dark house and a pool of blood in the kitchen. She followed a trail of bloody hand and footprints upstairs to the hallway, where she spotted Alaric (Matt Davis) lying on the floor bleeding to death. The history teacher had been stabbed by the Mystic Falls Mangler. “You have to kill me,” he told E. Matt protested, saying, “Elena, no! This is messed up!” But the doppelganger knew what needed to be done. Elena removed the knife from Alaric’s stomach and stuck it into his heart, giving him a supernatural death from which he could rise.

12. Moment: Damon compels Jeremy into moving to Colorado
Season 3, Episode 10: “The New Deal”
“You shouldn’t have to give up a normal life just because of me,” Elena told her brother. Then it was time for Damon and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) to “talk.” As a woeful Alaric and Elena watched, Damon looked deep into Jeremy’s eyes and made him forget about the only home he’s ever known. “You’re going to go out of town for a while. A long while,” he said. Then the vampire painted the boy a picture of normal. Jeremy was to move to Denver, live with family friends, attend a new school and date “living” girls. “You’re going to leave Mystic Falls behind and never think twice about it,” Damon commanded. “You’re going to have a better life, Jeremy.” Let’s hope so.

11. Moment: Damon and Elena meet for the first time — before she meets Stefan
Season 3, Episode 22: “The Departed”
It was the night of the bonfire. Damon was hunting, by passively laying in the road outside of Mystic Falls, when he heard Elena approach. She had just broken up with Matt and was on the phone with her mother as she walked up the darkened lane. Damon vamped over to her. “Katherine?” he asked. But she wasn’t Katherine. Unsuspecting, and a bit weirded out by the hot guy who appeared out of nowhere, Elena introduced herself. She and Damon chatted — flirted even. The vampire gave the cheerleader some relationship advice. “You want a love that consumes you,” he said. “You want passion and adventure. And even a little danger.” Then, as her parents drove up, Damon compelled Elena to forget.

10. Moment: Klaus breaks Tyler’s neck
Season 3, Episode 5: “The Reckoning”
Apparently spending the afternoon breaking and re-breaking Stefan’s neck wasn’t enough. With the doppelganger on one side and the requisite werewolf on the other, Klaus made sure the witch would do his bidding. “I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie,” he said. Klaus slit his wrist and force-fed Tyler (Michael Trevino) his blood, adding, “For Tyler’s sake, you’d better hurry.” Then the OV did what he does best — he broke the teen wolf’s neck. Elena, Bonnie, and those other two seniors gasped in shock. But Matt glared at Klaus with a look that ensured that this vamp won’t be the only one who needs anger management.

9. Moment: The Ripper makes a man drink his wife’s blood
Season 3, Episode 3: “The End of the Affair”
Back in the day, Dark Stefan was meaner than we could have imagined. When an angry husband, Liam Grant, chides the vampire for flirting with his wife, Leila, the Killer Salvatore compels him to sit down at his table. Then Stefan summons the man’s wife. She too sits. While Rebekah and Nick (aka Klaus) watch, amused, Stefan removes Leila’s glove, slits her wrist with a pocketknife, and lets the blood fill his wine glass. Then he passes the glass to Liam.

“What kind of sick freaks are you?” Liam asks.

“I said drink,” Stefan insists.

Shaking, Liam raises the glass to his lips. He chokes as he takes a sip. Stefan laughs and the Nice Salvatore’s luster dims in our eyes — just a little bit.

8. Moment: Alaric goes after Meredith
Season 3, Episode 17: “Break on Through”
It all started with a look. Alaric’s dark stare revealed the psychopath within. “Do you ever feel remorse?” he asked Meredith (Torrey DeVitto). As the doctor poured creamer into his coffee, Ric picked up a butcher’s knife. Never taking his crazy eyes off her, he inched around the kitchen island, spouting craziness about how the founding families had failed to protect Mystic Falls. Then he asked his question again and lunged at her with the knife. But the MD was not going out like that. Meredith met his hand with scalding hot coffee. Then she kicked and clawed her way upstairs and into the bathroom. She closed one door and locked it. When she lunged for the other Alaric tried to barge in. She stabbed him with a pair of scissors. Then she shut the door and slumped to the floor, bleeding but safe for at least that moment.

7. Moment: Damon and Alaric have one last bro moment
Season 3, Episode 20: “Do Not Go Gentle”
We all know Damon doesn’t do touchy-feely, so we’re a bit surprised when he plops down next to Alaric on the floor of the crypt where the history teacher is preparing for death. Then Damon says, “Sorry I killed you. Twice.” Alaric smirks before replying, “So I have to actually die to get a real apology out of you?” Damon offers him a swig of whiskey. Then the vampire sits silently next to his vampire-hunting friend and waits for him to die.

6. Klaus dies — or should we say “dries”
Season 3, Episode 21: “Before Sunset”
The Original vampire didn’t see it coming. As Klaus pounced on Tyler, preparing to make his subject pay for disobedience, Damon and Stefan vamped into the room. The brothers grabbed the OV and Tyler threw a defensive move. The next thing you know, Stefan had pierced the ancient bloodsucker’s chest with his fingertips. That contact was all Bonnie needed to enact the desiccation spell. Miles away, she held her hand over Jeremy’s chest and chanted. As his human heart slowed, so did Klaus’s. The centuries-old vampire seemed confused. Then sad. Then frightened. Tears welled in his eyes as he looked around for the family that was not there to support him. Klaus exhaled as veins crept up his cheek and his skin went ashen. Finally, he collapsed into the arms of the man he’d just tried to kill.

5. Moment: Bonnie takes another one for Team Elena
Season 3, Episode 15: “All My Children”
How much is friendship with Elena worth? Bon-Bon has already paid for that BFF status with the life of her grandmother and her warlock boyfriend Luka. In “All My Children,” her agreement to help Original Mama Esther kill her vampire children cost the witch of Mystic Falls an even bigger toll. When their plan to stake Kol failed, the Salvatore brothers cornered Bonnie and her mother, Abby. “Esther’s drawing from the witches and the only way to cut her off is if one of you is no longer a witch,” Stefan said. Bonnie looked around wildly. But it was too late. In the next room, Damon was already doing the dirty deed. Knowing Abby had vampire blood in her system, he broke the Bennett witch’s neck. And just like that, another vampire was born.

4. Moment: Damon kisses Elena — and she doesn’t push him away.
Season 3, Episode 10: “The New Deal”
It was the moment legions of Delena fans have been waiting for. Sad that he had to compel Jeremy and feeling guilty over the sacrifices his brother made, Damon could not fight his feelings for Elena anymore. Or rather, he would not. “If I’m going to feel guilty about something, I’m going to feel guilty about this,” he said. He stepped back onto the porch, grabbed his brother’s girlfriend and kissed her. And, wouldn’t you know, Elena kissed him back. (Oh, yes she did!) “Good night,” Damon said as he backed away from a breathless Elena. Good night indeed.

3. Moment: Elena kisses Damon
Season 3, Episode 19: “Heart of Darkness”
We felt Damon pull on Elena’s heartstrings when, laying next to her in the motel bed, he told her why he doesn’t let his inner good show. But then Sexy Salvatore took her hand. And our girl was overcome. Elena’s body may have dashed out of the room to the soda machine but her heart was still in bed with him. So it was no surprise that, the moment the sexy Salvatore was within kissing distance Elena did what the Delena fans amongst us would have done a long time ago. She ran to Damon grabbed him and kissed him like his lips held the breath on which her life depends. The kiss was passionate. Hot. The kind of lip lock we’d all been waiting for—well, half of us, at least. Sorry Stefalena fans.

2. Elena chooses Stefan
Season 3, Episode 22: “The Departed”
It’s the verdict we’ve all been waiting for. Elena had been kidnapped by Matt (for her own good), when she got the call about Klaus. They were on the road, racing away from Mystic Falls. “Damon’s a 100 miles outside of town,” Matt said. “I can keep driving to him or I can turn around and go back to Stefan. It’s your choice.” We discover who Elena chose when she calls Damon while on her way back to town — to see Stefan (as well as Caroline and Tyler). “If it was just down to him and me and you had to make a choice who got the goodbye, who would it be?” Damon asked. Elena’s answer was brutally honest. “I love him, Damon,” she said. “He came into my life at a time when I needed someone and I fell for him instantly. No matter what I feel for you, I never unfall for him.” Saddened, Damon replied, “Yeah, I get it. Stefan. It’s always gonna be Stefan.” Elena tried to console him, offering, “Maybe if I had met you first…” Little did she know, she did.

1. Moment: Elena wakes up dead (possibly)
Season 3, Episode 22: “The Departed”
Elena laid on a metal table in the morgue. Stefan sat beside her in the dark, stoically crying. Outside in the hallway, Doc Meredith confessed to Damon that she had lied—how, earlier that day when Elena had arrived t the hospital, she’d been suffering from a life ending cerebral hemorrhage. Not a slight concussion. The M.D. had given her vampire blood. As the weight of that settled on Damon, inside the morgue Elena gasped back to life.
