Elena’s Reveals All With Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) humanity fully in the off position, she is the living embodiment of #yolo. We mean emBODYment. After her first unsanctioned attack on a human, the rest of the gang convenes to try and figure out next steps.
Sure, they’ve got a doppelganger and a cure to find, but they’ve also got a vampire without a conscience to look after. Proving that point, Elena emerges from the shower in the buff just to get a, er, rise out her two exes — and her best friend Caroline (Candice Accola)! No longer the modest girl they used to know, this Elena is born to be bad.
Klaus Saves the Day When it comes to everyone’s favorite Original Original, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), we’ve learned to expect the unexpected. Even so, his triumphant saving of Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), followed by his care and feeding of her was a surprise.
Hayley has been staying well under the radar in light of her little assist helping Katherine (Nina Dobrev) and Shane (David Alpay). This explains why she’s wandering a truck stop after dark. It also explains why a vampire might want to attack her — even one we don’t know yet. Just when we think she’s done for, Klaus appears and employs his fatal bite to save the day and spare the girl.
Elena Has Team Spirit While the old Elena may have grown out of cheering, the new Elena seems to be all about it. She works her uniform, trying to distract Stefan (Paul Wesley) by using him to help her with some “stretches.” But with the old outfit seems to come some old mean girl spirit. When Elena spots a girl on the opposing team wearing a ribbon she wants, she has to have it.
When the chick in question won’t just offer it up, Elena has zero issues with bleeding her nearly dry and yanking it from her head. Caroline is pissed — naturally. Not only is eating the competition rude, the color of the ribbon doesn’t even go with Timberwolves’ colors. But Elena won’t take this sass lying down; she decides to take Caroline out, letting her friend fall right on her back for copping an attitude. Ouch!
Klaus and Hayley Feel The Love Tonight Talk about OMG. We can’t be the only ones who saw this scene and yelped in shock. After all, Klaus’s heart belongs to Caroline, doesn’t it? And everyone knows that Hayley’s stuck on Tyler. But when the heart can’t get it wants, it settles for the smoking hot immortal in front of it. Klaus and Hayley calling a timeout to get freaky?! OMG indeed.
Caroline Says Goodbye To Tyler For Real Throughout the episode, Caroline dealt with missing Tyler (Michael Trevino) — who’s on the run from Klaus — by calling him and leaving him voicemails. In a lot of ways, they mimicked the journaling Elena and Stefan used to do in Season 1. Or should we say, the diary-writing. But just as Elena’s diary went up in smoke with her house and the remains of her brother, so does Caroline’s wishful thinking. She goes to Tyler’s house and finds she can’t enter. Matt (Zach Roerig) appears and invites her in. He gives her a letter, sent by Tyler, explaining in no uncertain terms that he will never be coming back. He’s left the deed of the house to Matt, to help protect Caroline. Caroline’s dreams of a reunion seem to fall apart before her eyes. The toughest girl in Mystic Falls is now a little bit broken.
