You Mad? The Top 9 Biggest Fan Controversies on DWTS Season 13

Deep breaths, everyone. It’s all going to be OK. There’s always at least one controversy every season on Dancing With the Stars, but unlucky Season 13 seems to have something new every week. Everyone seems to be on edge — the pros, the stars, the judges and the fans. We’ve compiled a list documenting nine of the biggest gripes, and their causes, of the season so far — and we still have three weeks to go!

Because Nancy supposedly flashed a nipple
One of the first overblown debates of the season was about Nancy Grace’s alleged nip-slip. She denied any wardrobe malfunction during her Week 2 Quickstep, but The Smoking Gun posted a hilarious list of complaints sent to the FCC after the show, including one fan’s rant: “I want action!!! I am so offended to see her boob, my kids are traumatized. I want action against her and this network!!!” Another fan said ABC should be “fined for this disgusting and godless display.” So there you go. Godless boobs scare children. We can only imagine how frightened they’d be if Nancy had farted at them at the same time.

Because “good dancers” keep going home before bad ones
Every season there’s at least one “shocking” early elimination but Season 13 had two very early on in the season — first Kristin Cavallari, whose strong Samba and 650,000+ Twitter followers couldn’t save her on Week 3; then Chynna Phillips the very next week after she blanked out briefly in her Tango. Chaz Bono got the most anger for being around while those ladies left, but after Chaz was eliminated, some fans still had anger ready for Nancy for outlasting the higher-scoring David Arquette. People hate the show for being a “popularity contest” … until someone popular goes home, like Carson Kressley. He was missed so much the show decided to bring him back every week anyway.

Because Rob accused married couples of having affairs
Sometimes Rob Kardashian does act like a little boy. Earlier in the season he told The Mojo in the Morning Show, "I know some of the couples on the show, some of the celebrities that are married, that are..and some professionals that are married...that are having an affair with their partner.” It caused a big to-do, with some fans speculating about which couples he meant while others just dissed Rob as making up rumors without caring about the consequences. He later issued a vague kind of non-denial denial on Twitter: "As you guys can tell by my tweets, I tend to joke around a lot, and some of the things I said during an interview were taken out of context. I have nothing but respect for everyone who’s on DWTS. They know it and I know it and we all have a lot of fun together."

Because the judges have it in for Hope and Maks
Team MakSolo was frustrated long before Broadway Week. Hope Solo didn’t seem comfortable with the subjective nature of the judging and she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were both frustrated to be stuck in the “8” zone when they felt like they were improving beyond the same score of 24. It all came to a head during The Broadway Brawl when Maks voiced his concerns at the judges’ table. He felt like other couples were being praised for effort while he and Hope were being nit-picked for things like heel leads in a Rumba. A lot of fans cheered for the couple, agreeing that the judges and producers were playing favorites while punishing Hope and Maks. This theory continued on Halloween Week when the editing package focused on Maks being rough with Hope, making it seem like he was some kind of villain.

Because Maks is too tough on Hope
However, for every vocal Team MakSolo fan defending Maks there is an angry DWTS viewer fed up with Maks for being too pushy, harsh and controlling with Hope. When Maks literally pushed her during Team Paso Doble practice, many fans saw red — some even argued that Maks should be fired; it sends the wrong message to allow that kind of disrespectful treatment to go unchallenged. Even Maks admitted he was too intense with Hope during Halloween Week, saying he needs to tone down his competitive side and focus on the entertainment part of the show.

Because Maks disrespected the judges
Some people agreed with Maks’ Broadway Week comments to the judges but others thought he was being an arrogant poo-head. The judges *were* focusing on Hope’s dancing during that Rumba critique. They made no personal comments at all (unlike Bruno calling Chaz a penguin.). If Hope and Maks don’t want to hear about heel leads, staccato movements and Len’s opinion that it was her worst dance so far, that’s fine but it’s not disrespectful of the judges to talk about it. That’s their job. It is disrespectful, however, for Maks to cut Len off mid-sentence to suggest he should retire. Even Maks’ father thought Maks should apologize to Len, not for his opinion but because an “older person” deserves respect.

Because Bruno compares dancers to animals or shopping carts
As Carrie Ann Inaba tried to explain to Access Hollywood, Bruno is Italian, and English is his second language. He speaks in pictures. So when he compared Chaz to a “cute little penguin,”and an Ewok [dancing] with Princess Leia, it wasn’t meant to be hurtful or insulting. He wasn’t a “bully” — he was just Bruno being Bruno. Chaz and Lacey Schwimmer took offense to the comments, but it’s not like they were Bruno’s first targets. He has a long history of colorful comparisons, including comparing Kate Gosselin to a shopping cart being pushed around the floor on Season 10. He also called her a “super-bitch from hell with a face like thunder” during her Paso Doble. Sometimes Bruno’s harshest comments are actually meant to be compliments.

Because Kim Kardashian "cheated" by tweeting Justin Bieber's number
The Kardashians annoyed enough people just by shouting out suggested scores from the audience. Some folks wanted them banned from the ballroom, or maybe just forced to wear muzzles. But the idea ofdisqualifying Rob from the competition came up after his sister Kim tweeted to her 11 million followers “OMG I have @JustinBieber 's phone #!!!! 800 8683402! CALL HIM! He's taking calls for the next hour!!!!” She quickly tweeted that she was joking and that was just the number to vote for Rob and Cheryl Burke on DWTS, but some folks thought that crossed the line into cheating. Who knows how many people she did trick with that move (if any). It did nothing to bring love to the beleaguered family.

Because Maks dissed Derek/Because Derek always gets the best partners
The whole Maks vs. Derek thing is spiraling out of control, but at least it’s out in the open now. Fans definitely seem to be taking sides. Derek supported the judges when it came to The Broadway Brawl and Maks told Good Morning America that if he had Derek’s list of partners — Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Grey and Ricki Lake — he wouldn’t have a problem with the judges either. Not only did that sound like a diss to Hope — whom Maks hand-picked to dance with this season — it was a shot at Derek for being the “golden boy” who always gets the best partners and that’s why he’s won three times. Now Us Weekly has a story claiming the pros both hate each other. Why can’t we all just get along?
