Kristofer Hivju really commits to his characters, apparently.

The Norwegian actor plays wildling Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones, a character madly in (unrequited) love with Brienne of Tarth, played by Gwendoline Christie.

And Gwendoline recently revealed Kristofer even leers at her when they’re not filming!

Tormund first caught sight of Brienne in the HBO drama’s sixth season, when Brienne arrived at Castle Black with Sansa Stark.

And ever since, he hasn’t been able to stop staring, much to Brienne’s dismay and disgust.

He even told the Hound he wants to have “great big monsters” with her.

(For the record, the Hound knows how unlikely this scenario is. “How does she look at you?” he asks Tormund. “Like she wants to carve you up and eat your liver?”)

When Gwendoline appeared on Late Night this week, she told host Seth Meyers that Tormund’s crush is “absolutely terrifying.”

“He is into me, and he likes to continue being in character, even off-set,” she said.

“So, we’ll be in an easy-up — which is, of course, a dark tent with a sort of gas heater burning away.

“And he will start, you know, chewing a sandwich wildly at me, start masticating wildly at me, really kind of making love to that sandwich as he eyeballs me. Eyes like lasers pouring right in.”

To hear Gwen talk about it, it’s a miracle she can even keep a scowl on her face during her scenes with Kristofer — because she’s always on the verge of cracking up.

“I’m, you know, a classically trained actress,” she said.

“However, this is probably the one time that I dissolve [into laughter] without fail because no one told that this was going to happen.”

The 38-year-old was wholly prepared for Kristofer’s lecherous looks, which have inspired memes all over the Internet.

“In the script it simply says, ‘Tormund gives Brienne a look,’” she explained.

“I was not expecting the power, the magnitude of intense sexual intention to pour out of a man’s eyes and cover me … I feel like it comes out of the screen.”

Unfortunately for all of us who find these Tormund-Brienne scenes hilarious, we missed out on what must have been an uproarious conversation between them in the Season 7 premiere.

Director Jeremy Podeswa told Insider he had Kristofer and Gwendoline do a little improvisation for as long as they were visible the background of a tête-à-tête between Sansa Stark and Littlefinger.

“We just shot [Tormund and Brienne] ad-libbing a bunch of conversations down below,” he said.

“They just have fun playing it,” Jeremy said of Gwendoline and Kristofer’s work together.

“So there’s really not a lot of work [for me to do] to have those scenes be as fun and loaded as they are, because they just naturally have this great chemistry.

“The fans really enjoy that flirtation and fun between them, and they have a really good time playing that up. For fans of the show, I think those moments are really great.”

Well, there are still six more episodes for Tormund to seduce Brienne.

Or, more realistically, there are still six more episodes for him to torment her!

Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres in either 2018 or 2019 on HBO.
