Towanda Braxton Explains On-Screen Meltdown: I Wasn’t Being Heard

Braxton Family Values returned in a pretty dramatic way last night — and we aren’t talking Toni Braxton’s return to Broadway. Throughout the night we saw itty-bitty rifts between sisters Tamar Braxton and Towanda Braxton which ultimately ended in Tamar’s departure and Towanda’s explosive breakdown during dinner (where she broke a couple wares in the process). Now that the world has seen a side of Towanda they’ve never seen before, the reality star is talking about what led her to the breaking point.

“I detested the fact that everybody thought, or everybody was feeling that Towanda was jealous of Tamar. I’m like ‘how dare you think that someone who actually volunteered to carry your child to be jealous?’ That’s ridiculous to me,” Towanda revealed to ABC News Radio, adding, “And whenever Tamar needed, and whenever Tamar wanted me to be there, I was there.”

Towanda’s other sister, Trina Braxton, was also present during the interview and said she thought Towanda’s blowup had to do with mounting tension after Tamar’s fans, aka Tamartians, hopping on Twitter to wish Towanda’s children bodily harm. Towanda, on the other hand, said it was a simple case of keeping her feelings about it all hidden away for so long.

“I couldn’t be emotional. I couldn’t let everybody know how I was really feeling because as soon as I do there’s always a [back]lash. So I suppressed every time,” she said, further explaining,”But when we were sitting together as a family I just felt that I wasn’t being heard, and it was a long time coming.”

But Towanda wasn’t the only emotional sister that night — Trina Braxton broke into heavy sobs after watching Towanda explode, and was left in the arms of their father, Michael, who consoled her.

“I’ve never seen Towanda, in all of the years that we’ve been alive, I’ve never seen her blow up like that in my life,” she says. “No matter how much we argue, no matter how much we fuss, no matter how much we fight, when one hurts we hurt too.”

Will the sisters ever get over their hurt feelings? Guess we’ll have to tune in to find out!

A new episode of Braxton Family Values airs Thursday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET on WE TV.
