Traci Braxton: My Sisters and I “Love Each Other So Very Much” — Exclusive
Traci Braxton comes with her own set of drama on the hit show Braxton Family Values, but she isn't a drama queen. Indeed, the R&B singer and proud mother has — in her own words — matured greatly over the course of the four seasons of the show, and if this season is any indication, she shows no signs of changing course in this new, upcoming season.
"I'm a very passionate person," she said to Wetpaint. "And, I am also very family oriented. But, with reality shows being what they are, I learned a lot of lessons too. And one of the biggest lessons I learned was to be comfortable with my own voice — and to not be afraid all the time."
Fans of the hit WEtv show already know that Braxton Family Values follows the life and times of the Braxton sisters, a feisty group of ladies that includes Traci, her mother Evelyn, and her sisters Toni, Towanda, Tamar, and Trina Braxton. But Traci is quick to point out that the "drama" isn't all there is to the show… or to her relationships with her sisters. "This season, there's going to be a lot of ‘wow’ and ‘a-ha!’ moments on the show," she said. "Of course, we're going to get into it. That's what sisters do. But even though we're arguing on the show, you're also going to see — especially in this season — that we love each other so very much. You can't deny our family dynamic."
For her part, Traci is taking the exposure from the show to turn the spotlight on another cause dear to her heart: increasing awareness for JRA — juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, from which her son suffers. "It's a disease that's misdiagnosed all the time," she explains. "And my son suffers from this very awful disease. One of the things I'm doing is putting all of the information about the disease on my website in a series of informative links. It's a cause that's very dear to me, of course, because as a mother, you want to make sure that your child is okay."
But Traci wouldn't be a Braxton if she didn't have a hit single to promote — namely, the sultry single "Perfect Time," which was written by Tank. Though Traci points out that there are some autobiographical elements to the song, it's not completely about her relationship with her husband Kevin Surratt (with whom she appeared on the third season of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars). "This song is all about getting your relationship together and making it work for all the right reasons," she said. "[Tank] wrote the song after speaking with my management, and said it was the perfect song for me. And you know, he was right… this was, indeed, the perfect song for me."
Braxton Family Values airs on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET on WEtv.
