Troian Bellisario Opens Up About Eating Disorder, Mental Illness (VIDEO)

Spencer Hastings has always been one of our top role models, and the same can be said for her alter ego, Troian Bellisario.

The Pretty Little Liars star is using her fame and her own experiences to lift the stigmas those who struggle with eating disorders and mental illness often face.

Both her story and the images in a new PSA are startling.

"With anorexia, a lot of it is about presenting a front of, "Everything is OK, while you're slowly killing yourself," the 31-year-old shares.

"Gone were the days when I was just a happy, carefree kid who was running around, and suddenly I just felt this inability to interact with people and to nourish myself."

Perhaps because of Troian's personal experience with anorexia, she cites Hillary Clinton's position on healthcare in general and mental health care specifically among the many reasons she supported the former Secretary of State's presidential bid.

"If I had been just shunned to the side as not having 'real problems,' I don't know that I would be living today," the actress shares.

Sadly, the outcome of the election was not what Troian had hoped for. The outspoken Democrat shared her thoughts on the ascension of Donald Trump in a late night regram.

We're sure Troian will continue her advocacy on political issues and social issues like mental health awareness such as this powerful PSA.
