Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario (Spencer) isn’t just an amazing actress - she’s a writer and producer, too. Her short film, Exiles, is about to make its debut at the San Diego Film Festival, and we couldn’t be more excited for our Pretty Little Liar!
“Happy to announce that EXILES will be screening at the San Diego Film Festival on October 4th and 5th. Come join us!” tweeted an excited Troian yesterday.
The film, which made its festival premiere in June at the Marfa Film Festival, is “a brutal and atmospheric addendum to the greatest love story of all time,” i.e. Romeo and Juliet. Troian calls the female protagonist of the Shakespearian tragedy “one of her favorite characters,” and said having the opportunity to play her was one of the best aspects of the experience.
Exiles has been a real passion project for Troian. She wrote and found funding for the film amidst the demands of her hectic PLL filming schedule. The short is directed by Troian’s USC friend Tommy Bertelsen, and co-stars Shane Coffey (aka PLL’s Holden Strauss) as Troian’s Romeo. Check out the trailer on Vimeo, and the synopsis below:
Forsaking everything she has ever known, a young girl braves punishment and death to join her condemned husband in exile. Reunited and finally free of their blood stained past, the two lovers set out to build their new life together. But as the days pass in the hostile landscape of an endless desert they realize just how little they truly know about each other. And the banishment that was their new beginning, tears their world apart.
Exiles will screen as part of a short film program at the festival called “A Different Kind of Love,” started at 5:30 p.m. on October 4. Good luck, Troian!
