Mark stepped up to bat when creator Alan Ball retired from the series after Season 5 to focus on his new project, Cinemax’s Banshee.
Showrunner changeups happen all the time — just ask The Walking Dead — but what’s odd, and not particularly auspicious, is that this change is happening during production of a season and not during a hiatus.
This might not be such good news for Season 6, as it implies that the production is going stressfully or unsatisfactorily.
Brian — whose writing credits include many episodes of Spin City and Friends — has been with the True Blood production crew since Day 1, while Mark joined the HBO drama at the start of Season 4.
But don’t feel too bad for Mark — he still has an overall deal with HBO, meaning he’ll now focus on developing other projects.
