Since we first saw Bill’s prophecy on True Blood Season 6, we knew that at least one vampire would meet the sun at Vamp Camp, and tonight, that happened in a big way.

Though Bill was able to use Warlow’s faerie blood to save everyone in that dreaded sun room, there was one exception: Steve Newlin. Given that everyone there (humans and vamps alike) hate him, it was no surprise that he was shut out from the blood binge, and then Eric Northman showed up to make sure he wasn’t escaping camp alive.

After Sarah Newlin opens the room from the roof above, she watches as Eric strangles Steve, explains that he has always been around when someone he loves is hurt or dies, and then holds him right into the sun. Bill tries to protest and let him drink from his faerie blood, but it was too late — there was no turning back now.

Though we were sad to see him go, Steve definitely had the best one-liner to go out with: “I love you, Jason Stackhouse!” he screamed as he bursts in flames, disintegrating into a pile of goo. The perfect ending for a truly unforgettable character.

Are you shocked that Steve died? Sound off below!
