UPDATE: Unfortunately, True Blood Season 7 will indeed be the show's last. HBO announced today, September 3, that the long-running series will bow in summer 2014 after another shortened 10-episode season. Goodbye, Bon Temps! We'll miss you, Sookie Stackhouse.

Original story (Aug. 22, 2013):

With True Blood creator Alan Ball leaving his post as showrunner after Season 5, everyone was already skeptical about the show’s sixth season. Brian Buckner took the helm, and although Truebies don’t seem to be ready to jump ship all together, the series finale didn’t fare that well in the ratings.

Brian sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and assured the fans that despite a few missteps with convoluted storylines in the past few seasons, the show will return to its storytelling roots about a group of people living in sultry Bon Temps.

He went on to explain that the new “for every human, a vampire, for every vampire a human” premise is what will get the show back to its original idea. As he said, that first season posed the question of what relationships between vampires and humans would look like, and we couldn’t get enough of it played out on the small screen between Sookie and Bill.

“And now we have this whole town of characters we're invested in, and we get to look at how the pairings, and what those pairing will do to the relationships people are already in,” Brian revealed to THR. “All of it is about trying to get back to the more entangled romances and soapy-ness that the first season had.”

As for how many seasons the show has left in it, Brian admitted he didn’t know for sure, saying it’s HBO’s decision. He’s asked for the information, saying he wants to know how to approach Season 7.

“I want to know if I'm breaking the final season or not. I do hope to get that answer. The show is viable as long as the audience still cares. They might be mad right now, but they care.”

Yes, yes we do! Are you still on board the True Blood train? How many more seasons do you think we could sink our teeth into their storylines?
