Sookie Stackhouse has thrown a few punches over the years on True Blood, but it’s hard to imagine teeny tiny Anna Paquin knocking anyone down in real life!

But surprisingly, the faerie is not only just strong, but she purposely puts herself through pain.

“I’ve boxed for years — I love it,” Anna enthusiastically told Red. “I don’t think it’s going out on a limb to say girls get angry, angsty and frustrated, too, so it’s good to have a healthy ... release. You have to have a bit of a sick desire to experience pain. It’s exhausting, it’s so hard. But I’m a fitness junkie, so anything that isn’t hard is kind of boring for me.”

And before her boxing days, she used an interesting set of wheels to get around and stay healthy: a skateboard!

She told the magazine that she grew from an introverted young “weirdo” into a skateboarding goth girl, besotted with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Radiohead.

But all of that changed again when she was 9 years old.

In 1992, she went to an open audition in New Zealand and landed her Oscar-winning role as Holly Hunter’s daughter in The Piano. Considering how talented she is, we weren’t too shocked until she revealed that her only prior role was a skunk in a school play!

Since then, she has dyed her hair blond and ditched the skateboard in exchange for her new twin babies’ stroller, but we love her all the same.

Are you surprised that Anna is a boxer? Weigh in below!
