Charlaine Harris "Can’t Imagine Anyone" But Anna Paquin as Sookie Now
Although True Blood is set to continue indefinitely, the original book series that inspired the hit TV series, The Southern Vampire Mysteries, is coming to an end in May 2013.
Author Charlaine Harris has been churning out faerie tales for the past 11 years, but she felt it was time for a change.
“I felt that the heart was going out of my effort to write the series, and I don’t want to give a book that’s less than heartfelt,” Charlaine explained to New Zealand’s Good Morning.
As this chapter of her life comes to a close, Charlaine is also getting a little sentimental. She used to say that Anna Paquin “just wasn’t her Sookie,” but, oh, the times are a-changin’.
“I had the character alive in my head and no actress could match that really,” she admitted. “However, she really has done so wonderfully in the role [that] I can’t imagine anyone else now.”
There’s one thing about Sookie that Char isn’t so attached to. Personally, she would never want to have the faerie’s powers.
“That would be terrible,” she said. “I like being human. I like the arc of my life very much.”
Don’t worry, Truebies — Charlaine isn’t stepping too far away from mind-readers and the undead. Her next two ventures are a graphic novel called Cemetary Girl and a TV adaptation of her Harper Connelly Mysteries on Syfy, titled Gravesight.
