True Blood and The Southern Vampire Mysteries are both some kind of wonderful, but they couldn’t be more different.
Sure, the characters might share the same names, but that doesn’t mean they have the same personalities!
Earlier this week, author Charlaine Harris spoke at Bouchercon 2011 in St. Louis and admitted that some of the characters from her books are completely different from those on True Blood.
“There are a couple of the characters in the show who look very much like they do in the book,” Charlaine said.
“Chris Bauer, who plays Andy Bellefleur, looks very much like [my] Andy, and a couple of the others. Kristin Bauer Van Straten’s not very far from the actual Pam, she’s a little skinnier. So I do sometimes see them in my head."
"But to me, Anna [Paquin] has never been the way I think of as Sookie. I think she does a great job, but she’s just not my Sookie.”
Charlaine might disagree with some of Alan Ball’s casting choices and plot points, but when it comes down to it, fans of the show are usually fans of the books. Can’t we all just get along?
Charlaine admits that even her most extreme fans put Alexander Skarsgard first and foremost, and cites one book signing in particular:
“I guess the people who like Alexander Skarsgard are the most extreme fans, but she [the fan] had gotten tattooed of Alexander all over, starting here. I don’t know where it ended. And it went all the way down and I was going, ‘That’s quite a tattoo!’ And she was like, “Now you just sign my book to Mrs. Alexander Skarsgard.”
Wait, we sign all our email Mrs. Alexander Skarsgard. Is that weird?
