We’ve long sung the praises of True Blood, and the performance of Rutina Wesley as Tara in particular, so it’s nice to see our lofty opinion of both validated by the NAACP!

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People presents the Image Awards every year to celebrate outstanding people of color in film, TV, music, and literature. The nominees were announced yesterday (Dec. 11), and both True Blood and Rutina earned nods — for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, respectively.

This is the first Image Award nomination for both the show and Rutina, but co-star Nelsan Ellis was nominated for the last two years, and co-exec producer Alexander Woo was nominated for having written the Season 2 finale “Beyond Here Lies Nothin’.”

If you want to see if Rutina and the show win big, the awards show will be televised on Friday, February 1, at 8 p.m. E.T. on NBC.
