A recent preview of this season’s True Blood might have you thinking that we’re about to see a kinder, gentler Pam. But rest assured, she is just as blood-thirsty as ever — maybe even more so! In part 2 of our exclusive Wetpaint interview, Kristin Bauer told us more about the future of her fanged alter-ego, and about Pam’s sexual past. (For part 1, click here.)
There was a sneak peak at PaleyFest where a crowd of angry protesters are making slurs against vampires, and Pam acts as the voice of reason. She's normally very quick to get angry, what's changed this season?
She is still in rare form. Don't let that scene dissuade you — she is just also calculating in this post-Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) world. Technology and the media has to play a larger factor in vampire behavior. So one must be a tad more clever how one plots ripping one's opponent to pieces.
The maker-progeny relationship seems to come with a lot of sexual tension. Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena (Mariana Klaveno), Russell (Denis O’Hare) and Talbot (Theo Alexander) ... Do Pam and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) have a sexual history as well?
Well, I can tell you in the Season 2 DVD special features, Pam makes a fabulously crass and telling statement about her beginnings with Eric. "When I met Eric, my world split apart and so did my legs."
Eric was very close to his maker Godric (Allan Hyde), and Pam is very close to Eric. Godric is coming back this season — what is Pam's relationship with him like?
What Eric loves, Pam loves. He is her maker's maker, so this puts Godric on a pretty high pedestal. And personally I am a big Allan Hyde fan. The way he portrays Godric is beautiful.
We're surprised people can even pay attention to the Q&A session when Alexander's perfectly chiseled face is on a screen that big.
What actors do you like working with most on True Blood? Is there anyone that you haven't gotten much of a chance to work with that you'd like to work with more?
All of them! I have never been part of such a huge group of so many kind and talented people. There isn't a bad apple in the bunch. I have LOVED working with Eric, Anna (Paquin), Stephen, Nelsan (Ellis), and Deborah (Ann Woll). I am also very excited about this Pam-Tara (Rutina Wesley) action that (writer) Alan (Ball) hinted about!
What's your guilty TV pleasure?
Deadwood. Over and over and over. I'm on the fourth time through, I think.
Who was your first TV crush?
Hm? I didn't watch TV growing up. Well, that's not completely true. I remember now. It was Scooby Doo!
You're super active on Twitter (@BauerVanStraten), do you have any funny/weird Twitter fan encounters?
Here and there, but mainly with laptops between us, it all appears fairly benign anyway. But I have seen things online about me or the show that I didn't even know. I just go with it, true or not. I'm happy they're interested.
Have you had any funny/weird fan encounters in real life?
I have had a real gambit of fan encounters, from being afraid of me, which is a big compliment I think, to asking me to drink their blood, to trembling, to endless rambling and always, from the ladies, a request for more information on Alexander. All of which I am thankful for as the fans are the reason I have this incredibly cool job!
