Update: True Blood showrunner Brian Buckner has confirmed that Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman) will be returning for Season 7, despite seemingly dying in the Season 6 finale.

True Blood fans are well aware of rumors Alexander Skarsgard (Eric) might be killed off in Season 6 (hey, don’t shoot the messenger).

So will the actor take his final bow in True Blood Season 6?

“I obviously can’t say,” Alex told The Inquisitr in an exclusive interview.

We know, it’s a total cop out. But with Season 6 premiering on June 6 on HBO, it’s not like the hunky Swede can really give away such a huge plot development.

What he did reveal was the key to keeping Eric around Bon Temps: Spice up the character development every once in a while!

“It’s all about challenges and doing things that don’t feel repetitive,” Alexander Skarsgard explained. “There’s gotta be some question marks. Moving forward I want to keep pushing myself and to find those challenges, and learn and grow as an actor.”

With the huge shifts in Eric's personality over the course of Season 5 — from being his usual devilish self to a sweet amnesiac to a hybrid of both personalities — we have a feeling the True Blood writers will have no trouble keeping Alex on his toes.

Thankfully, he does appreciate that the show keeps things fresh by not following Charlaine Harris’s books verbatim.

“It’s taken on a life of its own,” Alex said. “I think it has to because what's the point of watching the show if you can just read the books? It has to have its own identity.”
