"I was terrified," he confessed to USA Today. "Not of being able to do the job, but I was scared of how the other actors would react to me telling them what to do."
Even more daunting was the fact that the episode was not "the easiest of episodes," he said.
But creator Alan Ball praises Stephen's ability as a director — especially when it came time for one particular scene.
"He directed a sex scene that might be the hottest sex scene we've ever had on the show," Alan revealed.
Considering True Blood's history of steamy sex scenes, that must be one hell of a romp! (DVR, set.)
As scary as it was stepping behind the camera, Stephen was comforted by the cast and crew — particularly his wife, Anna Paquin. And by comfort, we mean a little teasing.
"I got a bit of sass from the wife," he said. "She was like, 'Oh, my God, this director is such a diva.'"
