You Asked, We Answered!

Sookie Stackhouse’s Southern drawl on True Blood  is convincing, but her portrayer, Anna Paquin, couldn’t have been born further from Louisiana!

Our favorite faerie was actually born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, but moved to New Zealand when she was four. For most of her life, she rocked a saucy Aussie accent — or, well, similar since the land down under was nearby — but grew out of it when she moved to Los Angeles.

Nowadays, she sounds like a regular ol’ American, but her Kiwi tone slips out now and again!

“[My accept slips out] on the phone with my mom or my sister,” she told TIME. “[It’s] not quite that strong because I’ve lived away from home for a really long time now, but it’s one of those things that comes back [with family] or around Brits or Australians it pops back up!”

We’re guessing that she slips into her natural accent when she’s with British hubby, Stephen Moyer! Especially now, considering she’s juggling twins, too — Anna claims it also comes back when she’s “really tired.”

What do you think of Anna’s accent? Tell us below!
