What Stripper Costume Did Joe Manganiello NOT Want to Wear in Magic Mike?
Joe Manganiello isn't wearing much of anything in the movie Magic Mike, since he's playing a stripper and all, but before filming began, he had one request for the costume department — a particular outfit he didn't want to wear.
"The one thing I said going into it was, 'Guys, please, I’m up for these two classical sword-and-sandal pictures and I’m meeting with directors on them. Please don’t put me in a gladiator outfit, I don’t want to scare them off,'" he tells Vulture.
"And sure enough, I get to my costume fitting and they’re like, 'Oh my God, we’ve got this great gladiator suit!' And I’m like, 'Guys, I am not doing the gladiator.'"
Joe came up with a compromise: to dress up as a god-like statue. But that costume also came with a price: be painted, head to toe, in gold.
"There was a team of five women and it took over an hour and they just covered me, every crevice, in gold," he reveals.
"And the costumers gave me this gold lamé thong with a fig leaf on the front, and I just went for it."
And women everywhere give thanks!
