Bud Dearborne

Played by: William Sanderson
Occupation: Former sheriff of Renard Parish
Species: Human

Who is Bud Dearborne?

Bud Dearborne was the sheriff of Renard Parish and an old friend of Sookie and Jason Stackhouse’s deceased parents. While he was well-respected in the town of Bon Temps, he went out of his way to show his distaste for vampires and vocally objected to Sookie's relationship with Bill.

He investigated the murders of Miss Jeanette and Daphne, but his attempts at identifying and locating their killer were complicated by the outrageous behavior of Bon Temps' residents while under Maryann Forrester's influence. Bud eventually resigned as sheriff after becoming weary of the rash of bizarre murders, and appointed Andy Bellefleur as acting Sheriff.

It was later revealed that Dearborne was the leader of a group of vigilantes who were torturing and killing supernatural beings. Sookie received a clue from her dead grandmother that Bud had information about her parent’s deaths, but when she went to his house to ask him about it, she found Hoyt tied up and about to be fed to his hogs. Sookie was slated to meet the same fate, but the two captives were rescued by Sam, Andy, and Jason — who shot and killed the former lawman just in time.
