Not only is Eric Northman the strongest and oldest vampire in Louisiana, he is also the Sheriff of the vampire district Area 5. He is well over 1,000 years old, having been a Swedish Viking warrior in his human life. He runs the Shreveport vampire bar, Fangtasia and he has a keen interest in Sookie Stackhouse. Later, this fascination turns to something more, and Eric tricks Sookie into sucking his blood to create a sexual attraction and emotional bond between the two. As vampire sheriff, Eric brings forth Bill Compton to be tried by the Magister for killing vampire Longshadow. Tension exists between Eric and Bill due to their common interest in Sookie and the hierarchal relationship between the two vampires.
