Nelsan Ellis Bio:

Nelsan Ellis was born in 1978 in Harvey, Illinois. He moved to New York to pursue acting at the prestigious Julliard School. At Julliard he became friends with his future True Blood co-star Rutina Wesley and received the Martin E. Segal Award for his semi-autobiographical play, Ugly.

After graduation Ellis landed guest roles on Veronica Mars and Without a Trace. Originally cast in a bit part of a homeless person in the film The Soloist, Nelsan Ellis impressed the casting director and was given a larger role and the opportunity to work opposite Robert Downey Jr.  His big break was in 2008 when he was cast in True Blood as the drug dealing, short-order cook Lafayette Reynolds.
