Who is Sookie Stackhouse?

Sookie Stackhouse’s talent for reading minds first manifested itself when she was a young child. Confused by this talent, Sookie’s parents initially thought this was some sort of mental illness, until her father asked her to “listen” in on a business meeting and discovered a colleague intended to swindle him. Sadly, at the age of 7, Sookie and her brother Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) were orphaned and left to live with their grandmother, Adele Stackhouse.

After high school, Sookie sought work as a waitress at Merlotte’s, the local bar owned by proprietor and suitor Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammel). One night the vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) walked into the bar and Sookie’s life was forever turned upside-down.

Since he appeared, supernatural trouble has been a constant part of Sookie’s life — though that’s not all Bill’s fault! In addition to her mind-reading talents, Sookie’s half-fairy lineage gifted her with blood that’s irresistible to vampires. In fact, Sookie’s parents were killed by a mysterious vamp named Warlow who murdered them while lusting after the taste of it.

Fortunately, being a fairy also allows Sookie to defend herself with lightning-like blasts of her pure essence. These powers, however, haven’t been able to keep her from falling into a steamy love triangle with both Bill and his rival Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), and occasionally generating heat with smoldering werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello).
