HBO’s True Detective Season 2: Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell Confirmed (VIDEO)
HBO’s Emmy-winning series True Detective was one of the most acclaimed and talked-about series to debut last season. Once fans learned each season of the drama would feature a completely new cast, most of the discussion has revolved around who might lead the dark procedural’s sophomore turn. Well, it turns out we have our answers in Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.
According to TVLine, Colin will portray a detective whose allegiance is divided between the corrupt police department that employs him and “the mobster who rules him,” while Vince will play a career criminal trying to go legit. Interesting, yes, but not exactly what we expected.
Despite its critical darling status, the Nic Pizzolato crime anthology took a lot of lumps for what many perceived to be a conspicuous lack of strong female characters in Season 1, and fans were all but promised a female lead in Season 2. Early on, Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain’s name was floated around, with buzz about Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss (Peggy Olson) circulating in early August.
Though Jessica’s almost definitely out of the running, Elisabeth hasn’t been ruled out yet — and after her Emmy-winning role in Top of the Lake, we think she’d be a perfect fit. The Killing’s Michelle Forbes has also been teased as potentially filling a “key role.”
We’re not abandoning all hope that Season 2 will feature stronger female portrayals, but we have to say we’re still a little thrown by this casting announcement. What do you think?
