It’s almost showtime, Synergy!
Eighties ladies, we have some truly outrageous news for you — Jem and the Holograms is going to be a movie.
Yep, the Hasbro/Marvel/Sunbow cartoon that ran from 1985 to 1988 — and led to all those dolls in your attic — is hitting the big screen with a modern-day live action reinvention. And who better to adapt it than … three guys, including Justin Bieber’s manager?
Producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity), director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) and Scooter Braun (music mogul, JB manager) are teaming up to make the movie, and The Hollywood Reporter said it’s fast-tracked to start production this spring.
In a two-minute video (watch it below), the guys explain the project, saying they really want fans’s involvement. It's like Kickstarter, they said, but instead of asking for money they want your creativity — from costumes to music, etc. They want fans to post videos about their Jem love, labeled #JemtheMovie, and they’re also looking to cast triple threats (singing, dancing, acting) for the film. Head to JemTheMovie.com for details.
Are you excited for this, or do you think — if they’re going to make a movie out of Jem — that it should be animated like the TV show?
