Back in the 2000s, we had huge crushes on The O.C.'s resident bad boy Ryan Atwood, played by Benjamin McKenzie. Now, we've grown up (a little), and our tastes have evolved. Sure, Ben hasn't exactly dropped off the face of the planet; he spent four years as Officer Ben Sherman on the NBC/TNT series Southland. But now that Ben is playing a younger, greener version of the big-hearted, yet tough-as-nails Batman staple James Gordon (best-known later as Commissioner Gordon), he definitely has our attention.
Gotham follows then-detective James in his early days on the Gotham City Police Force, plus the formative years of Bruce Wayne, the kid who would become Batman.
The Batman origin story is pretty well-known after several movie franchises; as a child, Bruce's parents are shot, leaving little Bruce an orphan. In a trailer released by FOX yesterday, we see James responding to the scene of the crime and mentoring young Bruce into everyone's favorite bajillionaire vigilante… and getting pretty sexy along the way.
The series also stars Irish actor Donal Logue (Grounded for Life, Law & Order: SVU) as Detective Harvey Bullock, imagined as James's first partner in the series, and Jada Pinkett Smith as crime boss Fish Mooney.
