It’s not easy to reveal a traumatic childhood experience with the world, but former Martin star Tisha Campbell-Martin thought it was important to open up about her past experience with sexual abuse. While giving victims of sexual assault some heartfelt advice, Tisha unveiled on the new Fox show The Daily Helpline that she was raped at the age of 3.

“You can no longer be a victim,” Tisha advised a woman on the show who shared her story of abuse. “You have to be victorious at this point. You can’t play the victim because at this point … he is winning, and you are allowing him to win. You are making a conscious decision to harm yourself, to hurt yourself, and allow this person to still have dominion over your life. You can’t do that anymore.”

Tisha told the woman she can give that sound advice without judgement because she had also been sexually abused.

“This is the first time I have ever admitted this on camera in front of millions of people,” Tisha said. “I too have been a victim of the same thing. When I was 3, I was raped by an older person.”

Tisha further discussed her own experience: “I knew as a child I did nothing wrong and that this wasn’t my fault, but I have found forgiveness in the guilt that I might’ve had. I felt like, did I pull this in? Did I do something? At 3 years old? No. It’s a heinous crime.”

We’re really proud of Tisha. Not only did she bring awareness to the situation by opening up about her own experience, but she also gave advice to many women, men, and children out there on how to move forward with their lives.
