Vampires make for excellent TV drama, but there's one big problem when you're portraying the undead. Unless you are an actual vampire IRL, you're going to age over the course of your television run.

These 7 supernatural TV characters prove our point. While our faves from shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Vampire Diaries are supposed to be ageless, the actors portraying them got noticeably older as the years went by.

Angel ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' 'Angel')

Angel ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' 'Angel')

Angel was turned at the age of 25, which wasn't too far off from David Boreanaz's 28 years at the time the series debuted.

But by the time his spin-off, Angel aired its final episode, the Bones star was well into his 30s — and it showed.

Same goes for Angel's rival in love. James Marsters had the additional challenge of being in his 30s already at the time he started playing a 20-something immortal.

While we admit he aged very gracefully, he definitely found it difficult to believe he was forever 27 by the end of Angel.

Damon and Stefan Salvatore ('The Vampire Diaries')

We're not saying Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley aren't still dreamy. But Stefan was supposedly 17 when he was turned, and Damon 25.

With both actors in their mid 30s at series end, it became a little hard to see them as forever young.

Bill Compton ('True Blood')

Vampire Bill was supposed to be around 28 at the time he was sired, but Stephen Moyer was already nearly 40 at the time he began portraying the former Confederate soldier.

We'll grant him that people definitely looked older in their late 20s back in the 19th century than they do today, but that doesn't explain how much this True Blood vamp seemed to age over 7 seasons.

Jessica was only 19 when Bill sired her. While you could chalk some of her maturity over the course of the season up to her lost innocence, it's hard to deny at least some of the change is due to actress Deborah Ann Woll being nearly 30 by the show's end.

Pam was in her 30s when she was made a vampire, but she definitely looked a bit longer in the tooth than that by series end when Kristin Bauer van Straten was in her early 40s.
