Parenthood’s Haddie Braverman (Sarah Ramos) started her freshman year at Cornell University last season, which meant that her character was featured in far fewer episodes than seasons past because she was “enjoying” the frozen tundra that is Ithaca, New York instead.

Though Haddie did come back for holidays and to surprise her cancer-stricken mom Kristina (Monica Potter) during Season 4, Kristina is now cancer-free and Haddie is once again bound for the east coast for her sophomore year.

So, what does that mean for Haddie’s role in Season 5?

According to TVLine, Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina’s oldest daughter isn’t expected to be around much, if at all, and there are no current plans for her to visit the Braverman clan.

It’s always a question of finding the right story combined with Sarah’s availability,” showrunner Jason Katims dished.

Jason also pointed out that he dealt with similar situations on another one of his hit shows: Friday Night Lights.“We sort of dealt with this a lot starting on Friday Night Lights, where so many of our characters wound up graduating from high school and sort of leaving the show, and sometimes coming back for either one or a series of episodes, or sometimes a lot of episodes.”

In other words, Haddie could be back this season but if anything her role will be greatly reduced.
