ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is one of the fall’s most anticipated dramas, and with it’s feet firmly in the Marvel universe, Joss Whedon at the helm, and a stellar cast, we can totally see why. Marvel clearly knows they have what the people want, and the comic book giant isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Deadline reports that Marvel is in the early stages of developing a television series based on Captain America’s girlfriend, Agent Carter. The inspiration for this project came from a “one shot” short film about Agent Carter that will be featured as an extra on the upcoming Blu-ray release of Iron Man 3. As diehard fans of the Marvel universe may know, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was inspired by the another one shot, Item 47.

Agent Carter met Captain America during World War II, and though they barely dated, there was always a spark between them. Captain America was later frozen after a plane he was flying crashed into ice, natch.

According to the site, the very basic synopsis of Agent Carter is as follows: “Agent Carter brings back Captain America’s girlfriend Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, and chronicles her life as a budding secret agent after her boyfriend is stranded in ice.”

While we totally support this idea, Deadline is careful to note that Marvel is being characteristically tight-lipped. The project is reportedly still in the early stages, and likely in the process of finding a writer.

But as the site astutely points out, a “Marvel series with a female lead” would fit in very well at ABC.
