Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered to an awaiting audience of Avengers fans and Marvel comic book fanatics. Sure enough we were given superhuman action in the form of the the featured character, Mike Peterson, the ordinary man given extraordinary abilities thanks to a highly advanced pseudo alien technology. S.H.I.E.L.D. fans went crazy over the interwebs when they thought that Mike was actually a character of the SHIELD comic book universe — Luke Cage, aka Power Man.
This speculation comes as no surprise, since it’s been stated (at least 100 times) that we’re not going to see the A-list actors of the mega-smash Avengers film in the TV show. Nor do we expect to see any of the predominant Avenger/S.H.I.E.L.D characters from any of the other Marvel movies (ie. Spiderman, X-Men, etc.) or the upcoming Avenger sequel.
So, that leaves fans a little glimmer of hope that lesser known characters from other Marvel movies (and even the comics) will join in on the S.H.I.E.L.D. fun.
So, who’s our picks for hopeful cameos?
Thanks to the not-so-great film version starring Ben Affleck, non-comic book fans have been introduced to the wonderful world of Daredevil, who becomes an Avenger in the comics. It would be nice to see Daredevil return to the screen and do better the second time around.
We got a taste of Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) in the Marvel film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Though Deadpool isn’t a member of the Avengers in the comics, he is affiliated with Wolvy who became an Avenger at some point.
So far we have yet to meet Ms. Marvel, the woman who would eventually give X-Men character, Rogue, her ability to fly. If S.H.I.E.L.D. will be investigating the paranormal, it would be pretty awesome if their investigations led to an encounter with her in all her mutant goodness.
Another leading lady in the Avengers we have yet to meet. She’s got it all — mutant capabilities through technological advancements. If there was another female to add to the kick-ass club of women on this show (or at least give a cameo to), it would be her. Maybe even an episode with an origin story?
Yes, we know, it’s a long shot. Our very own Revenger Emily VanCamp will be playing this character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but it would be nice to at least see her for a minute or two before the release of the film. After all, Revenge is on ABC too…
Last but not least, we’d definitely like to see the character Luke Cage join the S.H.I.E.L.D. team for at least an episode or two. After the teasing they did with Mike (J. August Richards), we can only hope that when he said “this is an origin story” and later teased he was “a new person,” it meant that he would join the team and possibley work with them with some of his residual superhuman capabilities. Hey, it could happen!
