MTV is returning to the OC — but this time, they're trading in their designer duds for a pair of scrubs.

The network's latest docu-series, Scrubbing In, will follow nine young travel nurses as they embark on a 12-week stay in a hospital in sunny Orange County, California. But it's not all surf, sand, and parties for these nurses — after all, they do have lives to save.

"They captured us doing what nurses do in the hospital," Chelsey, one of the stars of Scrubbing In, told Wetpaint Entertainment. "This is why we all decided to do this show because we all wanted America to see what we, as nurses, do. It also does show what we do after work and on our days off, enjoying a new city, which we loved and had a lot of fun with. But we all love being nurses and saving lives. That's our main priority."

"I think initially we were a little bit nervous," added fellow travel nurse Heather. "We never imagined doing a reality television show because we are nurses. That's what we want to be doing. None of us ever saw ourselves being on TV, so I think we were a bit nervous."

However, that doesn't mean the new MTV project isn't being met with premature criticism. An online petition has gathered over 16,000 signatures as of Thursday, October 24, claiming the series upholds "the senseless sexual objectification that we as nurses, both male and female, continue to endure."

"We're 20-somethings, and we're in a profession that allows us to be able to work hard and also enjoy our lives," said Heather. "We love what we do, and we're passionate about what we do, and I think what's so controversial about it is that you see us not only at work, saving lives, but you also see us behind the curtain. Nobody sees what the nurses do in their off-time, and this show allows people to see how we live outside of work."

She added: A lot of people might think us going out and drinking is controversial, but we would never do that before a shift. We were always on-point, and gave 100 percent at work. We would never do anything to jeopardize our careers."

Viewers can decide for themselves when Scrubbing In premieres on Thursday, October 24 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Meet the nurses in the video below!
