We love MTV’s Girl Code for its not-so-subtle approach to sex, love, beauty, and feminine hygiene (there are plenty of lessons to be learned, people!), so as we prepare our bodies for Halloween, we wanted to ask one of the funny ladies of Girl Code for a few bits of advice on the dos and don’ts of going out on the spooky holiday.
So Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the hilarious Jessimae Peluso to dish on Halloween etiquette. It turns out we couldn’t have gone to a better source! Not only is Jessimae well-versed in “slutty” DIY Halloween costumes, but the comedian is also a huge fan of all things macabre. “The latest book I read was called Stiff, and it’s a non-fiction book about what happens to the body after you die… Is that weird?”
Um, no. Not at all, Jessimae! But before we get to her dos and don’ts for this Halloween season, here’s a little preview of what we can expect when Girl Code returns for Season 2!
“Going into a second season, most of us thought, ‘What stone have we left unturned?’ It turns out, there are a lot of stones,” Jessimae told us. “There so many stones!”
Yes, there will be even more fabulous stories of boys, boobs, and booze, but Season 2 will also introduce a new element to the series — scripted sketches!
“We also have sketches this season, which all the girls are really excited about because it gives us the opportunity to flex our other muscles. The show is so conversational, so it appears effortless… the reality is that yes, it’s conversational, but all of us are working comedians and performers. So having the sketches is a validating additive to the next season. We get to act out some really crazy scenarios that every girl goes through.”
We can’t wait to see Jessimae and Co. get their acting on when Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, October 30 at 10 p.m. ET, but until then, here are Jessimae’s Halloween dos and don’ts.
Do Wear More
"I know less is more in life, but on Halloween, more is more," she said. "I know girls use it as an opportunity to be half-naked, which is fine and I get that, but for me, I’ve never quite understood that. That’s not a costume. You’re just being extra slutty. Zombies aren’t supposed to be sexy! Chewbacca had a body of fur! He didn’t have a bra and a thong on. Why are you trying to sex up things that aren’t sexy? I had my slutty Pocahontas costume five years ago, and I realized that around that time of year in new York City, it’s a little cold. Maybe dressing like a slutty Native American isn’t the best choice."
Don’t Wear a Costume You Have to Keep Adjusting
"Don’t wear an outfit you have to keep adjusting because it doesn’t cover up enough. Don’t wear a costume you need to also add a bar napkin to because you realize that a nipple has been hanging out the entire time. You should really reassess what you’re going to wear and make sure that, if you’re going to be out drinking all night long, your outfit can also hang and not hang off you! I see so many girls who go out on Halloween wearing these things that require an assistant! They have to tape up the back, and they have to keep fixing the feather, and the boots keep falling down, and they have to tuck in the crotch area… It’s not sexy."
Do Show Your Goofy Side
"I like costumes that are a little creative. It’s less about showing skin and more about showing your goofy side. It’s about finding the humor in Halloween. You can be slutty at night when you go home with a guy. Some girls think if you don’t show your skin, then you’re not going to find a guy to go home with them, but a guy will bang a girl even if she’s dressed as a dude for Halloween."
Do Plan For Your Walk of Shame
"It’s Halloween! Maybe you’re out partying, you get drunk, and you run into a guy you might want to go home with — you better pack a sleepover kit in your Wonder Woman purse."
Do Have Confidence!
Now, these are simply suggestions. We here at Wetpaint believe that the key to a good Halloween costume is confidence, so as long as you feel comfortable with what you’re wearing, then you can push the haters to the left. Even Jessimae has broken her own rules once or twice.
“I say all this stuff, but I really loved my slutty Pocahontas outfit,” she told us. “I put a lot of work into that thing, and I even made it from scratch! I even found a card from my mom — she sent me a Halloween card — and she knew how hard I was working on the slutty Pocahontas costume. She called it Slutahontas. And she wrote on the card, ‘I hope your Slutahontas costume is coming together nicely.Let me know if you need any help.’ So my mom helped me with my slutty costume.”
