Today’s forecast is sunny with a chance of major career changes. Good Morning America’s resident weatherman, Sam Champion, is leaving the show for the Weather Channel, reports Deadline.

Sam has been with the program since 2006 and also served as the Weather Editor for ABC News. He’ll be hosting a brand new morning show on the Weather Channel and will be the channel’s managing editor.

The 52-year-old newscaster will be bidding adieu to GMA this Wednesday (December 4), and his fellow co-stars have already started their goodbyes.

I love you, @SamChampion, as a friend and brother, and will greatly miss working with you...” GMA anchor Josh Elliott tweeted December 2. ABC News president Ben Sherwood says Sam’s “storm chasing partner of the last few years,” ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee, will be filling Sam’s rain boots after his departure.

Sam explains on his own Twitter, “Only an amazing opportunity like this at @weatherchannel cld take me away from my @ABC family of 25 yrs and @GMA #blessedlife.” He adds: “Thank YOU for all the love and tweets! I promise i will read each one. #itsAmazingOutThere!”

Look for Sam’s new show to premiere early next year and for plenty of showers at the GMA studio come Wednesday.
