Today is the best day, do you know why? Well, we’ll tell you. It’s because Netflix has just announced the return date for House of Cards, and we can barely contain our joy. Word is the political drama will be coming on back to us on February 14, 2014 for Season 2!
Not ones to shy away from the dramatic, the announcement came via a YouTube clip from Netflix featuring a short-haired Claire (Robin Wright) slowly smoking a cigarette, with the date rolled out underneath.
The first season of the D.C.-based thrill ride introduced us to super shady, ambitious, vengeful congressman Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey), his cold and calculating wife, Claire, and the morally questionable, equally ambitious writer Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara). The series has been thus far filled with murder, revenge plots gone awry, and plenty of intrigue on the Hill. And according to Netflix’s just-released synopsis for Season 2, we can expect more of the same:
Francis and Claire Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes, an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.
Like Season 1, House of Cards’s second season will consist of 13 episodes, all released on Valentine’s Day next year. Will you be watching?
