Looks like we won’t be waiting as long as we thought for Ted to finally meet the titular mother. CBS has announced its spring schedule, which indicates that How I Met Your Mother will end its nine-season run on March 31.

The one-hour series finale will also provide a lead-in for the network’s new comedy, Friends With Better Lives, starring Dawson’s Creek and Don’t Trust the B star James Van Der Beek. Fun tie-in: The Beek has had a recurring guest role on HIMYM as ex-boyfriend to former Canadian pop star Robin Sparkles Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders).

So, what program will take the 8 p.m. slot when this legen... wait for it... dary CBS comedy takes its final bow in March? 2 Broke Girls will lead the network’s Monday night comedy block — unsurprising given its success. The full Monday lineup, starting mid-April, is as follows:

8: 2 Broke Girls

8:30: Friends With Better Lives

9: Mike & Molly

9:30: Mom

10: Intelligence

While no reason was offered for the earlier-than-expected end of HIMYM, ratings for its final season have been less than impressive compared to past seasons. Plus, we can’t imagine waiting until May for Ted to finally meet the keeper of his yellow umbrella (and his heart).
