Talk about a soap opera!
On December 17, The Young and the Restless star Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) tweeted to fans that he was let go from Y&R, with his last air date being January 30. He said more details would follow, then linked to a December 18 Q&A with Huffington Post Canada TV, discussing his exit.
HuffPost asked who told him he was leaving and what was the official reason for his departure. "[Executive Producer] Jill [Farren Phelps]," he answered. "We had a private talk in her office. She's always been very kind to me. We have a good rapport. It was intimate ... the way it was handled. [Pauses] Part of me feels this is because I've always been outspoken, and sometimes I've been too outspoken. Sometimes I've walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me. CBS, Sony, and Jill Phelps are not to blame for that. If I'm going to claim to be a grown man, I have to own that. But it could be financial or story. It was explained to me that CBS and Sony want to give Adam a break for 3-6 months and then they'll bring him back with a different actor. Maybe he does need a break. Adam has been on screen a lot. He's not being killed off."
There's a lot more to his Q&A so read it here.
Fast-forward to January 4 and another county has been heard from. TMZ has a new report referencing "multiple sources connected to the show" who claim Michael bullied and harassed his 20-year-old co-star Hunter King (Summer), fondling her breasts on two occasions. She reportedly complained to The Powers That Be and the allegations were considered the last straw. Michael had reportedly been a "a problem on the set for a long time," with further accusations saying he'd bullied and harassed others on set.
TMZ said calls and e-mails to his rep weren't returned.
Michael took on the role of Adam in 2009 when the previous star, Chris Engen, left the role. The 38-year-old Veronica Mars alum was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2013. He’s married with three children.
It’s hard to know what to believe if you’re just watching from the sidelines instead of there on set, but it’s just more sad news for the soap world.
