For a show canceled nearly seven years ago, Veronica Mars sure has gotten a lot of play recently! Two months away from the theatrical release of the Kickstart-ed film adaptation, the second coming of Veronica continues with The CW's announcement of a new spin-off web series starring original star Ryan Hansen as Dick Casablancas — and as himself!

In case you didn't see the series, Dick was a oafish, girl-obsessed high school jock-turned-frat boy whom Veronica (Kristen Bell) considered a frenemy — often uttering his name with deliberate emphasis, if you catch our drift.

As E! News reports, CW president Mark Pedowitz was the first to break the news, announcing that Mars creator Rob Thomas would be producing the web series for CW Seed (the network's website for digital programming).

"Rob and I spoke last night. He's very excited he's doing it for CW Seed," Mark told journalists at the 2014 TCA press tour. "It may not appear before the movie comes out. He's very busy, but we're very excited. I don't have a lot of details yet."

But Rob had more details to share later, tweeting that the series would star Ryan Hansen as a "version" of himself trying to put together a Dick Casablancas series. It's a meta concept — an actor playing an exaggerated version of himself putting on a show-within-a-show. (Think Matt LeBlanc in Episodes.)

We're betting that one Ms. Bell might pop up now and again in the new series — but we can't wait, even if not!
