Maybe it’s just us but when we think of likely candidates to host the Kids’ Choice Awards, seasoned action stars aren’t the first people to come to mind. During his more than 20 years in Hollywood, Mark Wahlberg has played everything from a rundown boxer to the lead character in a shooter video game made for the big screen. Yep, not exactly what we think of when we think Nickelodeon.
But the orange-accented channel begs to differ. They’ve given the 27th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards to the 42-year-old actor, a particularly interesting choice after the threats Mark was throwing around earlier this month about show darlings One Direction.
“We are thrilled to welcome a superstar like Mark Wahlberg as he takes the helm as our master of ceremonies at the biggest kid event of the year,” Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president of content development and production, said in a statement (via E! News). “We can’t wait for him to host and have lots of slime-filled fun with Hollywood’s biggest stars and our audience.”
The show is set to air live from the University of Southern California’s Galen Center on Saturday, March 29, on Nick. Bet on at least four kidlets tuning in for the event: Mark’s little ones, Ella, Michael, Brendan, and Grace. Maybe they’ll even get a chance to slime good ole Pops.
