Seth Meyers said farewell to Saturday Night Live last night, with support from new Weekend Update co-anchor Cecily Strong, and "a couple of friends" who decided to stop by — Amy Poehler, Stefon, and Andy Samberg.
Amy, Seth’s past co-anchor, said they were there to take Seth to the other side. "We're like a gateway drug, you know,” Stefon (Bill Hader) added, “like bath salts and meow-meow."
Amy said Seth has been "the heart of this show for over a decade.” The crowd cheered and Amy patted him on the back. Cecily tried to say they'd miss him so much, but Stefon jumped in to shout, "You barely KNOW HIM!" Then he literally hissed at her. That's his man! He even introduced himself as Stefon Meyers since, if you recall, they got married when Bill Hader left the show.
Seth asked what it's like outside SNL. Amy and Stefon said that place has "everything," including “homeless weight lifters who look like the Croods… and human DVRs." What are human DVRs? Stefon explained: "It's that thing where a midget sits on your TV and tells you what happened on Scandal.” Toward the end of the Weekend Update segment, Andy Samberg returned to (badly) sing part of Boyz 2 II Men’s “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday.”
Seth got serious when it was time to go, thanking the show for all the good years. "This is the job I always wanted, and I had the best time, and I met the best people." In one last parting shot, Fred Armisen's Governor Paterson blindly stumbled around the set as Seth waved goodbye.
Seth is taking over NBC's Late Night when Jimmy Fallon takes on The Tonight Show. Colin Jost will replace Seth as Weekend Update co-anchor. Are you sad to see Seth leave SNL? Will you watch him on Late Night?
