Now here’s some news worth dancing about! After hosting the Oscars this year, Ellen DeGeneres has seen a major boost in ratings for her daytime talk show.
Variety reports Ellen’s show hit an all-time high the day after her gig hosting the Academy Awards on March 2. The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which has been on air since September 2008, earned a 4.8 household rating/11 share for its March 3 airing. That probably sounds like industry gibberish so just know it’s a full point higher than the last time Ellen hit a ratings peak, back in 2004.
Ellen didn’t just gain in TV ratings, either. She now has more than 2.7 million new Twitter followers and 500,000 new likes on her talk show’s Facebook page following the Oscars — perhaps not surprising given what a social media presence she held during her role as host. That record-breaking selfie she took with the likes of Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence has been retweeted more than 3.1 million times as of publishing.
We hope ABC already has a thank you card in the mail to Ellen since her award show night led to a boost for shows across the channel, including Good Morning America with its largest post-Oscars audience ever (more than 7 million!). This year, everybody’s a winner after the Oscars!
