Our brains are feeling a little melted after the conclusion of True Detective Season 1, but as soon as we regain our major faculties, we know we’re going to be jonesing for the next installment. So how long will we have to wait for the second season of Nic Pizzolatto’s obsession-inducing series?

The good news is we can confirm the series has been renewed and will be back sometime in 2015. However the bad news is that 2015 is a year away. Also, since the show was conceived as an anthology series (a la American Horror Story), it will have a completely different cast with an entirely different storyline, location, and some different themes. So, sorry, Matthew McConaughey fans, but Rust Cohle’s definitely hanging up his gun for good.

These changes shouldn’t scare us. After the incredible conclusion of Season 1, we trust the collective genius of writer Nic Pizzolatto and director Cary Fukunaga. However, Nic has also indicated that next season will not be a one-director joint like Season 1 was with Cary at the helm.

"We don’t have any plans to work with one director again,” the series creator tells Buzzfeed.  “It would be impossible to do this yearly as we need to be able to do post[-production] while we’re still filming, like any other show," he explained. That said, Cary will continue on as an executive producer and will direct some of the episodes, and Nic Pizzolatto has a clear idea of how he wants Season 2 to go.

Whatever happens, we’ll be there, poring over every detail until the very end.
