Josh Elliott is bidding good day to Good Morning America. The news anchor is leaving the top-ranked morning show and taking his talents to NBC Sports.
ABC has confirmed that Josh is being replaced by Amy Robach, according to People. Amy will co-anchor the show with Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos.
So what happened to cause Josh to leave the popular show? Apparently, it all came down to moolah. Josh and the network had been embroiled in contract negotiations for months and were unable to reach a compromise.
"We worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations," says the president of ABC News. "Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path." The exec adds that he wants to "thank Josh for his many contributions to GMA and ABC News."
We had previously reported that Josh had been making about $1.2 million a year at GMA but was demanding $8 million a year to stick around. Yowza. This is the second big departure for GMA in recent months, as meteorologist Sam Champion left in December 2013.
We wish Josh all the best in his new gig, and we think Amy will be an awesome replacement.
Will you miss Josh? And do you think he was right to leave the show?
