Bad news today for fledgling shows over on Fox. The powers that be on the network have given the big heave-ho to not one, not two, but three series just getting their feet out underneath them.
On the chopping block: Surviving Jack, the Christopher Meloni-fronted comedy set in the '90s. The show premiered less than two months ago on March 27 and, despite initial positive reviews, hasn’t picked up the kind of steam the Fox execs seem to be looking for. It might not be all bad news for Christopher though; his previous gig, Law & Order: SVU, just got renewed for Season 16 so maybe NBC’s got a job opening...
Also not living to see another season are Enlisted and Dads. Both got their starts in the past seven months (Enlisted in early January, Dads in mid-September 2013). Neither ever did stupendous in terms of ratings but Enlisted received critical acclaim while Dads starred established star Seth Green. Apples and oranges? Perhaps.
The silver lining in all of this? At least Surviving Jack, Enlisted, and Dads got a moment in the sun. The network has also passed on three comedy pilots — Dead Boss, No Place Like Home, and Fatrick — that never even got to see the light of day.
What do you make of the mass exodus? Surprised or not so much?
